After 10 years of limping along in gardening, I finally got off my wallet and invested monotarily in it. You can figure for every $1 you spend on the garden you can get $10 in produce. However, for any money spent we don’t want failure. We want success! Whether you are using pots or several acres, here are three things I have determined neccessary.
Sunny spot
Good nutritional dirt
Water supply
Take note of your area and where it gets the most sun. That’s your location. You can make a mix of equal parts cow manure compost, your own dirt (or vermiculite) and peat. This mix provides every thing organically neccessary for growing. Most important plan before you break ground where and how you are going to water. We are currently using a sprinkler for our 40×30 size garden. It is more than sufficient. I use soaker hoses for my little kitchen garden, see picture on the side bar. For all other plants I have to be willing to carry water to them. Your determination is up to you, but having these three things will help you go far.
